EVERYTHING I DO WILL PROSPER
Biblical Context
“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the wicked, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of scoffers: but in the law of the LORD is his delight, and in his law doth he meditate day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, That bringeth forth his fruit in his season, And his leaf shall not wither; And whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.” Acts 1:4-5
This psalm is considered an introduction to the entire book of Psalms and establishes a clear contrast between two ways of life: that of the righteous and that of the wicked. The psalmist describes the blessed person as one who avoids evil influences (counsel of the wicked, the way of sinners, the company of scoffers) and instead finds his delight in the law of God. This person is like a tree planted by streams of water, strong and fruitful. On the other hand, those who follow the way of the wicked are compared to chaff that the wind blows away.
Surround ourselves with good influences:
It is important to choose the people we spend time with and make sure they inspire us to grow spiritually. Spending time reading and meditating on the Bible helps us to know God's will and to live according to it.
Cultivate a relationship with God:
Just as a tree needs water to grow, we need our relationship with God to thrive spiritually. So also Jesus referred to himself as the giver of living water, that spiritual food for our thirsty souls.
To be constant in our faith:
The Christian life is a journey that requires perseverance. We must be constant in our search for God and in our obedience to his word. In doing so, we will experience an abundant and meaningful life.
