GOD FIGHTS MY "BATTLES". HE IS MY REFUGE AND VICTORY
Biblical Context
“With him is but an arm of flesh, but with us is the LORD our God to help us and to fight our battles. And the people had confidence in the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.” 2 Chronicles 32:8
This verse is found in the context of a great threat to the kingdom of Judah. The powerful Assyrian king, Sennacherib, had invaded and conquered many cities, and now had Jerusalem under siege. Hezekiah, king of Judah, was facing a desperate situation.
However, instead of giving in to fear, Hezekiah motivated his people by reminding them that they had a much more powerful ally: God. This verse reflects Hezekiah's unwavering faith and trust in divine protection.
“With him is only one arm of flesh.”:
It refers to Sennacherib and his army. In spite of their great military might, they possessed only temporary and limited human strength.
“But with us is the LORD our God.”
It emphasizes the superiority of God's power. Unlike humans, God is eternal, all-powerful and capable of delivering his people from any adversity.
Faith in the midst of trial:
No matter how great the challenge, God is greater. When we put our trust in Him, we can face any adversity with courage and hope.
