God loved us first
Isaiah 40:31
“but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
Biblical Context
The book of Isaiah is one of the most important prophetic books of the Old Testament. Chapter 40 marks a change of tone in the book from messages of judgment and punishment to messages of comfort and hope for the people of Israel.
This chapter is set historically in a period when the people of Israel were in exile in Babylon. The people were discouraged, dejected and without hope of returning to their land.
“but those who hope in the LORD.”
Refers to those who trust in God, who put their hope in him and believe in his promises.
“shall have new strength":
Meaning that God will renew the strength of those who trust in him. He will give them the energy and vitality needed to face the challenges of life.
“they shall mount up with wings like eagles":
The above is a metaphor that compares believers to eagles, majestic birds that have the ability to fly high and without tiring. This image suggests that believers, by trusting in God, will be able to soar above their problems and difficulties.
“they shall run, and not grow weary; they shall walk, and not faint.”
These phrases emphasize the idea that God will give believers the strength and endurance necessary to persevere on their way, no matter what obstacles come their way.
