Mercy and Fidelity of GOD
Lamentations 3:22-23
"Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.
They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."
Biblical Context
Lamentations is a book of the Bible that reflects a deep sorrow and lamentation for the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple, which occurred in 586 BC. The prophet Jeremiah, attributed as the author, expresses in this book the suffering of the people of Israel in the face of this tragedy. Verses 22 and 23, in the midst of this lamentation, emerge as a ray of hope in the midst of the darkness
In the midst of destruction and despair, the prophet declares that the only reason God's people have not been completely annihilated is God's mercy. This passage highlights several important truths about God's character:
God's mercy is inexhaustible
Despite the sin and rebellion of the people, God continues to show mercy. His love and compassion know no bounds. Thus, even in the darkest moments, we can trust that God is on our side.
God's faithfulness is constant
God is faithful to his promises, even in the most difficult times. His faithfulness is like a new dawn each day, bringing hope and renewal. So we can find new strength and hope in God every morning.
God is our portion
Verse 24 states, “The LORD is my portion, says my soul; therefore I will wait for him.” This means that God is all we need, our only hope and our refuge in times of trouble.
