GOD WILL STRENGTHEN ME AND UPHOLD ME WITH POWER
Biblical Context
“Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
Jesus has just spoken about John the Baptist and his ministry. He then addresses the crowd directly with this invitation. At that time, the people were tired of the religious rigidity of the Pharisees and were looking for a real spiritual break.
Come to me:
Jesus extends an open invitation to all those who feel burdened by life. No matter who we are or what we have done, we are all welcome to come to Him, and to Him alone.
All you who labor and are heavy laden:
Jesus refers to the burdens we carry in our lives: worries, sins, stress, etc. These burdens can be physical, emotional or spiritual.
And I will give you rest:
Jesus promises to give us the rest we so desperately need. This rest is not only physical, but also spiritual and emotional. He assures us that, no matter what we are going through, we can find peace and tranquility in his presence.
