Stop the Anxiety: Understand the Gift That Is Already Yours by Right
Living as an heir of God is not merely an abstract religious idea, but a transformative reality that should redefine every aspect of our daily existence. Upon receiving Jesus Christ, our nature changes, and the legal right to be called children of God is granted to us, just as it is guaranteed in John 1:12. This new identity, founded on grace rather than human merit, immediately positions us not as fearful servants before a taskmaster, but as legitimate members of the heavenly royal family, with full access to the Father’s resources, promises, and unconditional love.
The scripture in Galatians 4:7 provides the key to understanding this new dignity: "So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir through Christ." Living as an heir implies a radical transition in our mindset and lifestyle; we move from a mentality of scarcity and personal struggle to a life based on faith. This means ceasing to act as we did before knowing God, replacing decisions focused on the momentary with those that align with God's will for our lives. Thus, our security ceases to depend on external circumstances or social approval, resting instead fully on the sovereignty of the One who has adopted us. As expressed in Romans 8:17, if we are children, then we are also co-heirs with Christ.
Being an heir of God also means that you hold in your hands gifts and a special purpose that He gave you to cherish and use well. It is not about living for oneself or only seeking comfort, but about showing who God is through your life in a world that needs to know His love. When you let the Holy Spirit guide you, you no longer do things "because you have to" or to follow rules, but because it is what comes naturally as a child of God. As 1 Peter 1:3-4 says, our inheritance is something incredible that never wears out or fades; it is kept in heaven. Knowing this changes everything, because it helps you face today's problems with a different mindset, knowing that nothing in this world can take away the gift that is already yours by right of adoption.
In conclusion, knowing that you are an heir of God is the best medicine against anxiety, loneliness, and that constant pressure to fit in or seek the approval of others. You do not have to struggle to prove anything to anyone, nor try to become something that God has already decided you are; your job is simply to enjoy and live that truth. Being an heir is about living gratefully and demonstrating it through your actions, understanding that the greatest gift you received from Jesus is not material things, but the opportunity to have a real and eternal relationship with your Father. When you walk understanding this, you experience an authentic freedom that the world, no matter how hard it tries, will never be able to give you.
