Perfect Gift

James 1:17
"Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows."

Biblical Context
The book of James is one of the New Testament letters in the Bible. It is written by James, the half-brother of Jesus, and is addressed to “the twelve tribes that are scattered throughout the world” (James 1:1). The book addresses topics such as faith, trials, temptation, wisdom, wealth and poverty, and the importance of good works.

“Every good gift and every perfect gift.”
This refers to all the good things we have in life, both material and spiritual. James reminds us that these blessings come from God. Therefore we should be thankful for all the blessings we receive from God, recognizing that He is the source of all good things.

“They descend from above.”
This phrase emphasizes that God is in heaven, above us, and that His gifts are an act of grace and generosity.

“Father of lights.”
This title for God suggests that He is the source of all light, both physical and spiritual. He is the creator and sustainer of the universe, and His light dispels darkness and ignorance.
