YAHVÉ-SHALOM: GOD IS PEACE
Biblical Context
The name first appears in Judges 6:24. Gideon, an Israelite leader, is about to wage battle against the Midianites. After an encounter with an angel of the Lord, Gideon builds an altar and calls it "Jehovah-Shalom" (in some translations). This act symbolizes Gideon's confidence that God will bring peace to Israel through victory over their enemies.
Yahvé:
It is a transliteration of the tetragrammaton name YHWH, the proper name of God revealed to Moses. It means "I am that I am" and expresses the self-existence and eternity of God.
This Hebrew word has a deeper meaning than simply "peace." It carries the idea of well-being, integrity, plenitude and harmony.
God is the source of peace
True peace is not found in external circumstances, but in our relationship with God. He is the source of our tranquility and inner well-being.
God offers us security:
In the midst of storm and adversity, we can find comfort in the promise that God is our peace. In Him we find a safe place where we can rest and renew our strength.
Yahvé-Shalom:
It is a powerful name that reminds us that God is the source of our peace and that, through Him, we can experience a fullness and harmony that transcends any circumstance. Even in the most difficult times, we can trust that God will bring peace to our lives. The peace of God transcends our understanding and guards our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
