YAHVÉ-JIREH: GOD WILL PROVIDE
Biblical Context
The origin of this name is found in Genesis 22:14. In this passage, Abraham is about to sacrifice his son Isaac as an offering to God. At the last moment, God provides a lamb for the sacrifice in Isaac's place. In gratitude, Abraham calls that place “Yahweh-Jireh,” declaring that “The Lord will provide.”
